Sec 4 Students (DSA-JC)


Application for DSA-JC Exercise 2019 to JC1 (Intake 2020) was conducted from 13 May 2019 to 03 Jul 2019 (5:00pm, Singapore time).

About DSA-JC

The DSA is an alternative route to seek admission if you wish to continue your pre-university education in a Junior College. Under this exercise, your talents and achievements, in both academic and non-academic areas, will be considered for admission into our College. You can also apply through the JAE with your GCE O-level results if you cannot decide at this juncture.

Admission Criteria

You are eligible if you are currently a Secondary 4 (Express) and Secondary 5 (Normal) student in our mainstream schools. You can apply through the following DSA domains: 
  • CCA – Performing Arts
  • CCA – Sports
  • Leadership Excellence
  • Music Elective Programme (MEP)


Selection Requirements

We are looking for talented students who can contribute in the following areas:

CCA - Performing Arts 
  1. Chinese Orchestra 
  2. Choir 
  3. Drama (English) 
  4. Modern Dance 
  5. String Ensemble 
  6. Symphonic Band 

CCA - Sports 
  1. Badminton 
  2. Basketball 
  3. Bowling 
  4. Floorball (Boys) 
  5. Football (Boys) 
  6. Shooting 
  7. Swimming 
  8. Taekwondo 
  9. Volleyball (Girls) 
  10. Water Polo (Girls)
  • Academic performance from Sec 3 to 4.

  • Certificates of achievement related to the performing arts / sports skills. 

  • Shortlisted applicants will be notified via
    e-mail and / or a telephone call for an audition / a trial with our Teacher IC / Instructor / Coach which will be conducted from
    27 May to 10 July 2019

  • Successful applicants through DSA (Performing Arts / Sports) are expected to join a Performing Arts or Sport CCA respectively from JC1 to JC2.

Leadership Excellence

  • We are looking for applicants with strong leadership skills.

  • Key leadership positions in the Students' Council, Prefectorial Board, Uniformed Groups or equivalent will be preferred.

  • Academic performance from Sec 3 to 4.

  • Achievements related to leadership involvement. This could include national / international academic-related competitions.

  • Shortlisted applicants will be notified via e-mail and / or a telephone call to attend an interview which will be conducted from
    27 May to 10 July 2019.

  • Successful applicants will be expected to take up a leadership role in TJC Students’ Council.

Music Elective Programme (MEP)  

  • Students proficient in music performance and composition will have opportunities to hone their musical skills with well-equipped music facilities and engage in authentic learning platforms with distinguished TJC MEP alumni, local and foreign practitioners from renowned institutions and organisations as part of the TJC Visiting Artists’ Series. The students will deepen their overall musicianship and develop essential 21st-Century skills in music technology and sound recording through our robust programmes. 

  • Successful applicants through DSA (MEP) must take MEP as a GCE A-level examination subject and join one of the Music Performing Arts CCA from JC1 to JC2.

  • Academic performance from Sec 3 to 4. 

  • A pass in Grade 8 practical and Grade 8 theory musicianship examinations in any of the following Music Boards:
    • Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)
    • Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB)
    • Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD)
    • London College of Music (LCM)
    • Trinity College London (TCL) 

  • Certificates of achievement, mark sheets and documentation of your achievements in music. Letter(s) of recommendation from your school music teacher is optional. 

  • Shortlisted applicants will be notified via e-mail and / or a telephone call to attend the MEP diagnostic test / audition which will be conducted on 04 July 2019

  • Successful applicants through DSA (MEP) will be in the Music Elective Programme, and must join a Music Performing Arts CCA in the College. 

Application Process (APPLICATION HAS CLOSED)

1) Application Form

  • Click here (https://matrix.tjc.edu.sg/DSA) to proceed with your online application. The application form should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. 
  • After completing all the sections in the online application form, please click on the "Submit My Application Now" button to submit the online form. 
  • Complete the application process by submitting a hardcopy printout of the application form (with a photograph affixed) and supporting documents to the College (by hand or mail) by Wednesday, 03 July 2019 (5.00 pm, Singapore time) to:

  • TJC General Office operating hours:
    Monday - Friday (8:00am to 5:30pm),
    Closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays
  • Applications received by fax and e-mail will NOT be considered.

2) Supporting Documents

Supporting documents (photocopies, need not be certified) must include:

  • Sec 3 academic results slips (Mid-Year and End-of-Year)
  • Sec 4 academic results slips (Till the latest available; including CA/WA)
  • Sec 1 to Sec 4 CCA records (Till the latest available)
  • Records of additional qualifications (only highest level required), achievements, awards, scholarships, etc.
    (if applicable).

3) Outcome of Application

  • All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application via e-mail by 02 August 2019.

Important Points

  • Before the end of the Offer Stage, we will make Confirmed Offers to selected students. If you wish to accept a Confirmed Offer, you will be guaranteed a place in Temasek Junior College as long as you meet the eligibility criteria for admission to JC based on your GCE O-Level Examination results. 
  • Each student is NOT allowed to accept more than one Confirmed Offer at any time. 
  • Once students have accepted an offer under DSA-JC Exercise, they will not be eligible to participate in the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE), as long as they meet the eligibility criteria for JC admission based on their
    GCE O-Level Examination results. Hence, you need to be very sure of your intent to pursue your education at Temasek Junior College before you accept TJC's offer. 
  • Successful DSA-JC students are NOT allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the
    GCE O-Level Examination results as they are expected to honour their commitment for the full duration of the programme. 
  • The College will not release detailed results of the trials / auditions or interviews. 
  • The College reserves the right not to reveal the results or reasons for non-selection. 
  • The College will not provide the application outcome over the phone. 
  • Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the students' aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools' academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.
