IP Year 1 (DSA-Sec)


Application for DSA-Sec Exercise 2022 commences from:
5 May 2022 (11.00 am, Singapore time) to
1 June 2022 (3.00 pm, Singapore time).

For Admission to TJC Integrated Programme (IP) Year 1 in 2023

If you are a Primary 6 student who is talented either academically, musically or in sports, or who possesses strong leadership qualities, TJC’s Integrated Programme is the place for you! TJC is anchored in a strong tradition of academic excellence and service to the community and country. Our distinctive Integrated Programme is designed to nurture the talents of every student, with student-centric programmes that will enable you to imagine possibilities, aim for higher goals, and reach your fullest potential.


All talent areas offered by TJC, together with selection criteria and selection process, are detailed below.


We welcome students who show a strong passion for their chosen academic area and who want to nurture their talent to their highest potential in TJC.

Students who enrol through any of our 4 academic talent areas will join our Talent Development Programme and our pinnacle academic enrichment programme, Temasek Academy. This programme develops students’ intellectual abilities beyond the typical curriculum and exposes students to a wide range of opportunities that allows their talents to flourish.

All shortlisted applicants must sit for an individual written selection test.
This will focus on knowledge and skills in the talent area, some part of which might extend beyond regular school curriculum.
Applicants who are further shortlisted will attend an interview.

Music Elective Programme

We invite all skilled and passionate musicians to be a part of our strong musical tradition through our established Music Elective Programme (MEP).

Students who enrol through DSA-Music will join the MEP and take up Music as one of their subjects and join one of the Performing Arts CCAs (Music) in TJC. IP MEP is a four-year commitment and is an examinable subject. The instrument used during the DSA audition will be taken to be their main instrument in the programme.

Music Elective Programme (MEP)

  • Selection is based on students’ knowledge of musical concepts and skills covered in the primary school Music syllabus.
  • Students need to be competent in performance skills that can be developed through music CCAs or through other musical experiences (for example, display basic fluency and sound fundamental techniques).

All shortlisted applicants for MEP must go through a Selection Exercise, which comprises:
  • A written listening test
  • An audition, which also consists of aural tests and a short interview
For the audition, applicants are to prepare:
  1. Two contrasting pieces on the instrument(s) of their choice or voice, with a duration of 5 minutes in total.
  2. Students may also submit their scores or recordings if they have composed music.

Performing Arts - Concert Band
We invite all skilled and passionate musicians to be a part of our strong musical and performance tradition in TJC.

Students who enrol through DSA-Concert Band will join the Symphonic Band CCA in TJC. The instrument/s used during the audition will be their instrument/s allocated in the Symphonic Band.

Performing Arts - Concert Band

  • Ability to play any of the following symphonic band instruments: euphonium, tuba, trumpet, trombone, horn, flute, oboe, clarinet, double bass, saxophone, bassoon, or any percussion instrument
  • Participation in music competitions, and/or Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation preferred
  • Very good CCA records Applicants should indicate non-school-based achievements in their online application in MOE’s DSA portal

All shortlisted applicants for Band will attend an audition:
  • Applicants are to prepare two contrasting pieces on a band instrument, or band instruments, of their choice.
  • Applicants are to submit relevant documents of school-based and non-school-based achievements before the audition, via email, to:

Applicants who are further shortlisted will attend an interview

We welcome students who have shown strong sporting talent and ability, and who are excited to achieve even greater heights with Team Temasek.

Students who enrol through DSA-Sports will join the CCA of their respective sport. They will undergo rigorous training to develop them to their fullest potential, including opportunities to represent the school at sporting competitions at the Zonal level and international exposure where appropriate.

Sports Performance Task
All applicants should be in sports attire.
  • For Badminton, please bring a
  • badminton racket.
  • For Basketball, be in proper sport shoes (preferably mid / high-cut basketball shoes).
  • For Bowling, please bring your personal equipment for the trial (to be conducted at SuperBowl SAFRA Tampines).

Applicants who are further shortlisted will attend an interview.

Students who enrol through DSA-Leadership will be guided by tutor mentors to develop their leadership skills. They will also be developed through suitable leadership opportunities.


  • Key leadership positions in primary school (Executive Committee member in the Prefectorial Board or equivalent) OR have led projects that have impacted the community 
  • Applicants should indicate non-school-based achievements in their online application in MOE’s DSA portal

Please note that meeting all the criteria does not guarantee the student will be shortlisted/given an offer.

Please note the following:
  • An applicant can indicate up to three choices.
  • Each choice consists of a secondary school and a talent area offered by that secondary school.
  • Of the three choices, an applicant may use a maximum of two choices to apply to the same school, for two different talent areas of that school.

Candidates Not Studying in Mainstream Schools
  • Candidates (Overseas Applicants and International Students including Singaporean Citizens (SC) and Singapore Permanent Residents (PR)) who are not studying in MOE mainstream schools, are required to apply for a Registration Number (RGxxxxxxx) before they can apply through the DSA-Sec Portal. Please refer to https://go.gov.sg/nmsdsa-sec-application.
  • International students (IS) who are not studying in MOE mainstream schools are also required to take the AEIS (Admissions Exercise for International Students) test before applying for DSA. Refer to https://www.moe.gov.sg/international-students/aeis/apply for details.

Dates for Selection Tests/Auditions/Trials/Interviews:

  • The selection tests/auditions/trials/interviews will be held from 27 June to 12 August 2022.
  • All selection tests/auditions/trials/interviews will be conducted in-person at Temasek Junior College or a relevant sports venue.
  • Only shortlisted applicants will be notified via email and/or SMS for a selection test/audition/trial.
  • Applicants who are further shortlisted after these selection tests will be invited to attend an interview in July 2022.
  • You will be notified directly through the contact details in your application form. Please ensure that your contact details are accurate.

Applicants who are further shortlisted for interviews, please email the following in PDF format to registrar@tjc.edu.sg with your name and applied talent area(s) clearly stated in the subject of the email:
  • Primary 6 academic results slips (till the latest available)
  • Records of additional qualifications (only highest level required), achievements, awards, scholarships etc. (if applicable).
  • If you have them, provide the following for the talent area you are applying under:
    • English Language: Certificates of Participation or Achievement in language ability, writing and speaking (e.g., UNSW ICAS English, The Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition, Plain English-Speaking Awards)
    • Chinese Language: Certificates of Participation or Achievement in language ability, writing and speaking
    • Mathematics: Certificates of Participation or Achievement (e.g., Singapore Mathematical Olympiad Junior Section, American Mathematics Competition 8, National Mathematics Olympiad of Singapore)
    • Science: Certificates of Participation or Achievement (e.g., Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors’ Award, National Junior Robotics Competition, UNSW ICAS Science, medals, participation in International & National Science competitions)
    • Music/Concert Band: Certificates of Participation or Achievement (e.g., most recent music examination certificate - instrumental and/or theory, competitions, festivals, masterclasses) Leadership: Letter from teacher-in-charge or School Leader

Outcome of Application

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application via email by 12 September 2022.


Points to note:
  • The General Ability Test (GAT) is no longer used as part of our selection process for the Direct School Admission Exercise. Applicants do not need to register for the GAT.
  • Successful DSA-Sec students are NOT allowed to participate in the annual Secondary 1 Posting Exercise to opt for secondary schools.
  • Successful DSA-Sec students are NOT allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results. Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school for the duration of the 6-year Integrated Programme, and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected for from year 1-4.
  • The College
    • reserves the right not to reveal the results or reasons for non-selection. 
    • will not provide the application outcome over the telephone.

  • Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.
  • Temasek Junior College will be rebuilt as part of MOE’s plan to start a multi-year, multi-phase JC Rejuvenation Programme. This will facilitate collaborative and interactive learning to support the educational needs of our students. The rebuilding works at Temasek Junior College are tentatively planned to be carried out from January 2024 to December 2027. During the rebuilding period, the school will operate at the former Tampines Junior College site located at 2 Tampines Avenue 9 Singapore 529564. During this period, the school will put in place the necessary measures to ensure a smooth transition for the students. The Tampines JC site will also be enhanced to help achieve the school’s teaching and learning goals.
