Application for DSA-Sec Exercise 2019 was conducted from 08 May 2019 to 04 Jun 2019 (3:00 pm, Singapore time) .

All shortlisted applicants must sit a selection test which will be a written test. The selection test will focus on knowledge and skills in the talent area, some part of which might extend beyond regular school curriculum.

Based on this selection test, some applicants will be contacted to come for an interview, during which applicants may be required to write a personal statement in response to a question.

Successful applicants will be placed in a relevant special programme to develop their talent.

English Language

Performing Arts

Music Elective Programme (MEP)

Applicants for the Music Elective Programme (MEP) should have at least Grade 5 for Practical and Grade 3 Theory, or any equivalent in other recognised examination boards in Music (including Asian and Ethnic instruments). Applicants should indicate non-school-based achievements in their online application in MOE’s DSA portal, and bring the relevant documents during the diagnostic test and interview.

All shortlisted applicants for MEP must sit for a diagnostic test and audition. The diagnostic test will focus on knowledge and skills in Music. For the audition, applicants are to prepare two contrasting pieces on the instrument(s) of their choice. Based on the diagnostic test and audition, some applicants will be invited to come for a further interview, during which applicants may be required to write a personal statement in response to a question.

Successful applicants for MEP will join the Music Elective Programme and take up Music as one of their subjects, and also join one of the Performing Arts CCAs (Music) in TJC.

Concert Band

Participation and achievements in music competitions and performances on any woodwind, brass or percussion instrument. Preferably to have represented school at the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation. Very good CCA record, including any relevant leadership experience. Applicants should indicate non-school-based achievements in their online application in MOE’s DSA portal, and bring the relevant documents during the audition and interview.
 

All shortlisted applicants for Band will be invited for an audition, where applicants are to prepare two contrasting pieces on the instrument(s) of their choice. Based on the audition, some applicants will be asked to come for a further interview, during which applicants may be required to write a personal statement in response to a question.

 

Successful applicants will join the Symphonic Concert Band in TJC.

Sports

Badminton

Basketball

Ten-Pin Bowling

Very Good CCA records for Badminton, Basketball or Bowling (e.g., Top 8 placings at National Age Group (NAG) competitions or represented school at Zonal/National competitions)

All shortlisted applicants in the Sports Talent areas must go for a trial. Applicants who fulfil the criteria for the trial will have to attend an interview, during which applicants may be required to write a personal statement in response to a question.

Successful applicants will join the relevant CCA group in TJC.

Leadership

Leadership

Key leadership positions in primary school (Executive Committee member in the Prefectorial Board or equivalent) or led projects that have impacted the community. Applicants should indicate non-school-based leadership experience in their online application in MOE’s DSA portal, and bring the relevant documents during the interview.

All shortlisted applicants will be contacted for an interview, during which applicants may be required to write a personal statement in response to a question.

Successful applicants will be placed in a special programme to develop their leadership abilities.



Candidates not studying in Mainstream schools

  • Candidates (Overseas Applicants and International Students including Singapore Citizens (SC) and Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR)) who are not studying in MOE mainstream schools are required to obtain a Registration number from MOE Customer Service Centre (CSC) before applying for DSA.

  • International Students (IS) who are not studying in MOE mainstream schools are also required to take the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) test before applying for DSA.

Application Process (APPLICATION HAS CLOSED)

1) Application Form


  • From 2019, application for the DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal. The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 08 May 2019, 9:00am to 04 Jun 2019, 3:00pm. For more details, please refer to MOE website

  • Applicant Period: 08 May 2019, 9:00am to 04 Jun 2019, 3:00pm.

  • An applicant can indicate up to three choices. Each choice consists of a secondary school and a talent area offered by that secondary school. Of the three choices, an applicant may use a maximum of two choices to apply to the same school, for two different talent areas of that school.


2) Supporting Documents (For SHORTLISTED Applicants ONLY) 

Supporting documents (photocopies, need not be certified) to be brought during the interview:

  • Copy of Applicant’s Birth Certificate / Passport / Student’s Pass (where applicable) 
  • Primary 5 academic results slips (Mid-Year & End-of-Year)  
  • Primary 6 academic results slips (till the latest available) 
  • Primary 5 to Primary 6 CCA records (till the latest available) 
  • Latest VIA records (if any)
  • Records of additional qualifications (only highest level required), achievements, awards, scholarships, etc. (if applicable). If you have them, provide the following for the talent area you are applying under:

      • English Language: Certificates of Participation or Achievement in language ability, writing and speaking (e.g., UNSW ICAS English, The Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition, Plain English Speaking Awards) 

      • Chinese Language: Certificates of Participation or Achievement in language ability, writing and speaking

      • Mathematics: Certificates of Participation or Achievement (e.g., Singapore Mathematical Olympiad Junior Section, American Mathematics Competition 8, National Mathematics Olympiad of Singapore)

      • Science: Certificates of Participation or Achievement (e.g., Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors’ Award, National Junior Robotics Competition, UNSW ICAS Science), medals, participation in International competitions, etc.

      • Music: Certificates of Participation or Achievement (e.g., most recent music examination certificate—instrumental and/or theory, competitions, festivals, masterclasses) 

      • Leadership: Letter from teacher-in-charge or School Leader

  • For overseas applicants or applicants not studying in MOE mainstream primary schools, please complete the application form on the centralised portal. Please also submit hardcopies of supporting documents required as stated (e.g. detailed overseas school results) upon being shortlisted. Applicants will also have to attend the relevant selection tests.


3) Dates to Note

  • Only  shortlisted applicants will be notified via e-mail and/or SMS for a selection / diagnostic test / audition / trial. Applicants who fulfil the criteria for the selection / diagnostic test / audition / trial will have to attend an interview.
  • Selection /diagnostic tests  / audition will be held on 6 July and/or 13 July 2019.
  • Interviews will be held in July / August 2019.

4) Outcome of Application

  • All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application in writing (letter to their residential address) latest by  30 Aug 2019 



Important Points

  • The General Ability Test (GAT) is no longer used as part of our selection process for the Direct School Admission exercise. Applicants do not need to register for the GAT.

  • Successful DSA-Sec students are NOT allowed to participate in the annual Secondary 1 Posting Exercise to opt for secondary schools. 

  • Successful DSA-Sec students are NOT allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results. They are expected to honour their commitment to their posted DSA schools for the full duration of the programme (i.e. 6 years). 

  • The College reserves the right not to reveal the results or reasons for non-selection.

  • The College will not provide the application outcome over the telephone.

  • Please refer to MOE's website for more information. You are encouraged to read the information provided at the website. 

  • Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the students' aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools' academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent. 

  • Temasek Junior College will be rebuilt as part of MOE’s plan to start a multi-year, multi-phase JC Rejuvenation Programme. This will facilitate collaborative and interactive learning to support the educational needs of our students. The rebuilding works at Temasek Junior College are tentatively planned to be carried out from January 2022 to December 2024. During the rebuilding period, the school will operate at the former Tampines Junior College site located at 2 Tampines Avenue 9 S(529564). During this period, the school will put in place the necessary measures to ensure a smooth transition for the students. The former Tampines JC site will also be enhanced to help achieve the school’s teaching and learning goals.
