Through Further Mathematics, we hope to provide a strong grounding in mathematics that is essential for students who aspire to be scientists or engineers or any other professionals who require mathematical tools to solve complex problems. This subject is a must for the mathematically inclined who intend to specialise in mathematics, sciences, engineering or disciplines with higher demand on mathematical skills.
Our Further Mathematics curriculum will lead students to acquire a wider range of mathematical concepts and a stronger set of mathematical skills for their tertiary studies in disciplines with a heavier demand on mathematics. It will lead them to develop thinking, reasoning, communication and modelling skills through a mathematical approach to problem-solving. Students will be taught to connect ideas within mathematics and apply mathematics in the context of sciences, engineering and other related disciplines. They will be guided to experience and appreciate the rigour and abstraction in the discipline.
Students have the opportunities to take part in a wide variety of competitions from world-wide competitions such as the Australian Mathematics Competition and the American Mathematics Competition, to local competitions such as the Singapore Mathematics Olympiad, Singapore Statistical Poster Competition, the Designing with TI Graphing Calculators competition and interest-based competitions such as the Rubik’s Cube Competition.
