Application for DSA-JC Exercise 2018 commences from 07 May 2018 (9:00 am) to 27 Jun 2018 (5:00 pm, Singapore time) .

About DSA-JC

The DSA is an alternative to seek admission if you wish to continue your pre-university education in a Junior College. Under this exercise, your talents and achievements, in both academic and non-academic areas, will be considered for admission into our College. If you are not interested to apply for admission to our college through this exercise, you can continue to apply for admission through the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) to be conducted in the first quarter of next year.

Admission Criteria

You are eligible if you are currently a Secondary 4 (Express) and Secondary 5 (Normal) students currently in our mainstream schools. You can apply through the following DSA domains:
  • CCA – Performing Arts
  • CCA – Sports
  • Leadership Excellence
  • Music Elective Programme (MEP)

Descriptor Selection Requirements
We are looking for talented students who can contribute in the following areas: 

CCA - Performing Arts 
  • Chinese Orchestra
  • Choir
  • Drama (English)
  • Guitar Ensemble
  • Modern Dance
  • String Ensemble
  • Symphonic Band 

CCA - Sports 
  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Bowling
  • Floorball (Boys)
  • Football
  • Netball (Girls)
  • Shooting
  • Squash
  • Swimming
  • Table-Tennis
  • Taekwondo
  • Tennis
  • Volleyball
  • Water-Polo (Girls)
  • Academic performance from Sec 1 to 4.

  • Certificates of achievements related to the performing arts / sports skills.

  • Shortlisted applicants will be notified via e-mail and/or SMS for an audition / a trial with our Teacher IC / Instructor / Coach which will be conducted from 21 May to 07 Jul 2018 .

  • Successful application through DSA (Performing Arts / Sports) would mean that the applicant must join the relevant CCA from JC1 to JC2.
Leadership Excellence 

  • TJC is looking for applicants with strong leadership skills including outstanding results in high-level academic-related competitions (national/international).

  • Key leadership positions in the Students' Council, Prefectorial Board, or Uniformed Groups or similar will be preferred.
  • Academic performance from Sec 1 to 4.

  • Achievements related to leadership involvement.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be notified via e-mail and/or sms to attend an interview which will be conducted from 21 May to 07 Jul 2018 .

  • Successful applicants will be expected to take up a leadership role in TJC Students’ Council.
Music Elective Programme (MEP) 

  • Students talented in music will have the chance to come under the tutelage of special instructors, attend master classes and hone their skills in sound proof, well-facilitated recital rooms.

  • Successful application through DSA (MEP) would mean that the applicant is to take MEP as an A-level examination subject as well as to join one of the Performing Arts (specifically Music) CCAs from JC1 to JC2.
  • Academic performance from Sec 1 to 4. 

  • A pass in Grade 8 practical and  Grade 8 theory musicianship examinations in any of the following Music Boards: 
    - Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) 
    - Australian Music Examinations Board  (AMEB) 
    - Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD) 
    - London College of Music (LCM) 
    - Trinity College of Music (TCL)

  • Certificates of achievements, mark sheets and documentation of your achievements in music, as well as letter(s) of recommendation from your music teacher.

  • Shortlisted applicants will be notified via e-mail and/or sms to attend the MEP diagnostic test/audition which will be conducted on
    28 Jun 2018.  

  • Successful applicants through DSA (MEP) will be under the Music Elective Programme, and must join a Performing Arts (specifically Music) CCA in the College. 

Application Process

1) Application Form

  • Interested students are to submit the DSA Application Form (with a photograph affixed) and relevant supporting documents as indicated below, to the College (either in person or by post) by Wednesday, 27 Jun 2018 (5:00pm, Singapore time) to:

  • TJC General Office operating hours: 
    Monday - Friday (8:00am to 5:30pm), closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays
  • Applications received by fax and e-mail will NOT be considered.
  • Please ensure that the application form submitted to the College is duly signed by the Applicant's Parent.
  • You may download the application form here, or collect a form from the College's General Office.     

2) Supporting Documents

Supporting documents (photocopies, need not be certified) must include:

  • Copy of NRIC / Passport / Student’s Pass (where applicable)
  • PSLE result slip (with aggregate score)
  • Sec 1 to Sec 3 academic results slips (Mid-Year and End-of-Year)
  • Sec 4 academic results slips (Till the latest available; including CA)
  • Sec 1 to Sec 4 CCA records (Till the latest available)
  • Records of additional qualifications (only highest level required), achievements, awards, scholarships, etc. (if applicable).
  • Teacher’s recommendation (optional)

3) Outcome of Application

  • All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application via e-mail by 31 July 2018. 

Important Points

  • Before the end of the Offer Stage, we will make Confirmed Offers to selected students. If you wish to accept a Confirmed Offer, you will be guaranteed a place in Temasek Junior College as long as you meet the eligibility criteria for admission to JC based on your GCE 'O' Level Examination results.

  • Each student is NOT allowed to accept more than one Confirmed Offer at any time.

  • Once students have accepted an offer under DSA-JC Exercise, they will not be eligible to participate in the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE), as long as they meet the eligibility criteria for JC admission based on their GCE 'O' Level Examination results. Hence, you need to be very sure of your intent to pursue your education at Temasek Junior College before you accept TJC's offer.

  • Successful DSA-JC students are NOT allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the GCE 'O' Level Examination results as they are expected to honour their commitment to their posted DSA school for the full duration of the programme they are admitted to.

  • The College will not release detailed results of the trials/auditions or interviews.

  • The College reserves the right not to reveal the results or reasons for non-selection.

  • The College will not provide the application outcome over the phone.

  • Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the students' aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools' academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.
