APPLICATION FOR DIRECT SCHOOL ADMISSION TO IP YEAR 1 (INTAKE 2019) IS NOW OPEN

Application for DSA-Sec Exercise 2018 commences from  07 May 2018 (9:00 am) to 02 Jul 2018 (5:00 pm, Singapore time) .

Admission Criteria

  • You are eligible if you are currently a Primary 6 student who has one of the following:
      • Excellent academic results in the following subject(s):
        (You can select up to 2 subjects)
          • English Language
          • Mathematics
          • Science
      • Grade 5 for Practical and Grade 3 Theory, or any equivalent in other recognised examination boards in Music
      • Very good CCA records for one of the following sports:
        (e.g. Top 8 placings at National Age Group competitions or represented school at Zonal/National competitions)
          • Badminton
          • Basketball
          • Bowling

  • All shortlisted applicants for the Academic Subjects must sit for a selection test in one of the respective declared talent areas. The selection test will focus on knowledge and skills in the talent area, some part of which might extend beyond regular school curriculum. Based on this selection test, some applicants will be asked to come for an interview.

  • All shortlisted applicants for Music must sit for a diagnostic test. The diagnostic test will focus on knowledge and skills in Music. Based on this diagnostic test, some applicants will be asked to come for an interview. Shortlisted applicants for Music will also be required to audition on the instrument of their choice.

  • All shortlisted applicants in the Sports Talent areas must go for a trial. Applicants who fulfil the criteria for the trial will have to attend an interview.

  • Successful applicants will be placed in a relevant special programme to develop their talent. Successful applicants for Music will join the Music Elective Programme (MEP) and one of the Performing Arts (Music) CCAs in TJC.

Candidates not studying in Mainstream schools

  • Candidates (Overseas Applicants and International Students including Singapore Citizens (SC) and Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR)) who are not studying in MOE mainstream schools are required to obtain a Registration number from MOE Customer Service Centre (CSC) before applying for DSA.

  • International Students (IS) who are not studying in MOE mainstream schools are also required to take the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) test before applying for DSA.

Application Process

1) Application Form

  • Interested students are to submit the DSA Application Form (with a photograph affixed) and relevant supporting documents as indicated below, to the College (either in person or by post) by Monday, 2 Jul 2018 (5:00pm, Singapore time) to:

  • TJC General Office operating hours:
    Monday - Friday (8:00am to 5:30pm), closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays
  • Applications received by fax and e-mail will NOT be considered.
  • Please ensure that the application form submitted to the College is duly signed by the Applicant's Parent.
  • You may download the application form here, or collect a form from the College's General Office.

2) Supporting Documents

Supporting documents (photocopies, need not be certified) must include:

  • Copy of Applicant’s Birth Certificate / Passport / Student’s Pass (where applicable) 
  • Primary 4 academic results slips (Mid-Year & End-of-Year) 
  • Primary 5 academic results slips (Mid-Year & End-of-Year) 
  • Primary 6 academic results slips (till the latest available) 
  • Primary 4 to Primary 6 CCA records (till the latest available) 
  • Latest VIA records (if any)
  • Records of additional qualifications (only highest level required), achievements, awards, scholarships, etc. (if applicable). If you have them, provide the following for the talent area you are applying under:

      • English Language: Certificates of Participation or Achievement in language ability, writing and speaking (e.g., UNSW ICAS English, The Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition, Plain English Speaking Awards)

      • Mathematics: Certificates of Participation or Achievement (e.g., Singapore Mathematical Olympiad Junior Section, American Mathematics Competition 8, National Mathematics Olympiad of Singapore)

      • Science: Certificates of Participation or Achievement (e.g., Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors’ Award, National Junior Robotics Competition, UNSW ICAS Science) , medals, participation in International competitions, etc.

      • Music: Certificates of Participation or Achievement (e.g., most recent music examination certificate—instrumental and/or theory, competitions, festivals, masterclasses)

  • For overseas applicants , please complete the application form and send by post with the form duly signed by the Applicant's Parent. Please also submit hardcopies of supporting documents required as stated (e.g. detailed overseas school results). Applicants will also have to attend the relevant selection tests.

3) Dates to Note

  • Only  shortlisted applicants will be notified via e-mail and/or SMS for a selection/diagnostic test / audition / trial. Applicants who fulfil the criteria for the selection/diagnostic test / audition / trial will have to attend an interview.
  • Selection/diagnostic tests  / audition will be held on 07 Jul and/or 14 Jul 2018 .
  • Interviews will be held in Jun/Jul/Aug 2018 .

4) Outcome of Application

  • All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application in writing (letter to their residential address) latest by  31 Aug 2018



Important Points

  • The General Ability Test (GAT) is no longer used as part of our selection process for the Direct School Admission exercise. Applicants do not need to register for the GAT.

  • Successful DSA-Sec students are NOT allowed to participate in the annual Secondary 1 Posting Exercise to opt for secondary schools. 

  • Successful DSA-Sec students are NOT allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results. They are expected to honour their commitment to their posted DSA schools for the full duration of the programme (i.e. 6 years). 

  • The College reserves the right not to reveal the results or reasons for non-selection.

  • The College will not provide the application outcome over the telephone.

  • Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the students' aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools' academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.
